Record of Safety

America’s oil and natural gas industry’s top priority is safety-the safety of our workers and the safety of the communities in which we operate. This commitment extends to every aspect of our operations, and is backed up by billions of dollars in spending every year to ensure compliance above and beyond government standards and mandates and to invest in new technologies that make already safe and clean exploration and production even more so.

Whether it’s the one million wells that have been hydraulically fractured without a single incidence of harm to public health, or the new technologies and practices that allow us to produce more energy with 35 percent less waste, we are producing more American oil and natural gas with less environmental impact and greater results.

State regulations have effectively ensured the safety of energy exploration and production activities for more than 100 years. Whether it’s the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission, the Ohio Division of Mineral Resources Management or the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, state agencies have struck a balance between encouraging production, protecting landowner rights, environmental safety and community development. Looking ahead, those same agencies and others are working with independent producers as new technologies are developed and implemented to ensure the benefits are shared and neighbors are protected.
