We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season this year from Energy in Depth.  One thing to remember as we are all enjoying our families and our friends, the natural gas industry is helping out locally to help people share a happy and healthy holiday.

The natural gas industry is always giving back to the local citizens in the areas they work in.  With the holiday season in full swing, many companies in the natural gas industry have taken steps to help local families enjoy the holidays.  Some companies make donations to charities in the regions they are working and others do things such as toy drives, regardless the way, the industry is behind every community donating their time and energy to satisfy the people living in it.

Cabot:

Cabot Oil and Gas, for the past three years has held an annual toy drive.  They open the toy drive for ten days, starting December 1st for people to donate toys for local children who are less fortunate during the holidays.  This year the toy drive benefits Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties.

Cabot has worked with Interfaith.  Interfaith is a County wide organization similar to the Salvation Army.  Cabot raised $10,000.00 in toys and money to donate to the organization.  Many of Cabot’s contractors helped out in the toy drive as well.  GDS raised almost $6,000.00 (of the $10,000.00) in toys and money for this.  Other companies who participated with Cabot are Sellman and Associates, Phoenix Specialty Supplies, Leatherstocking Gas Company, Northerntier Industrial Consortium, plus many more!

Interfaith’s goals are stated below.

“The Christmas Bureau program is a county wide event held at the Montrose Bible Conference each year. This community event reaches out and gets everyone involved. Many organizations, churches, youth clubs and individuals are needed to make this holiday program successful. Interfaith starts in October qualifying the clients who will be served, making sure no one is missed and there are no duplications. Then many hours are spent organizing and preparing the volunteers for the “Giveaway Day.”

The volunteers are being prepared to handle the many aspects of this event, with the Captains overseeing in areas of food, new toys, used toys, gifts for the elderly shut ins, Salvation Army bell ringing, and traffic control. The Captains then organize and hand out all the requested toys and needed food for the event.

The Salvation Army Bell Ringers raise money in the red kettles throughout the holidays. Of the funding raised, 90% is kept within Susquehanna County for programs and assistance, throughout the year. Interfaith serves as the Salvation Army Service Unit for Susquehanna County.
This year we are served over 615 households. What a blessing to see so many families able to celebrate the holidays with bountiful food and gifts.”

Diaz Disposal:

The big surprise this year was Adam Diaz, Diaz Disposal, matched all of the donations in the toy drive with a box truck full of toys.  This is Diaz’s first time doing a toy drive but they wanted to get more involved with their community and intend to continue on donating in years to come.

WPX:

WPX also participated in a toy drive.  The toy drive they ran was in the Pittsburg area and their drive was very successful as well gathering toys to donated to local families there.

Anadarko:

Instead of doing a toy drive Anadarko Petroleum Corporation is supporting Toys for Tots.  This is similar to the toy drive but Toys for Tots is well known all around Pennsylvania and New York State.

“The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.”

Women In Marcellus

Nicole recently highlighted the gift card drive, the group Women In Marcellus, which is comprised of women in companies throughout the natural gas industry and its subsidiary companies, held. The drive raised over $1,500 for the Williamsport YWCA to help the women using the service to have a nice holiday meal and to help buy gifts for the children staying there.
