Labor Day Celebrations Supported by Natural Gas

Many of us will spend this Labor Day weekend enjoying final picnics in the park or at home surrounded by family and friends, as summer draws to an end. It’s hard to believe another summer has come and gone. Whether people realize it or not, throughout the summer everyone in New York State (and around the country) have used petroleum products every day, and this weekend’s fun festivities will be no exception.

Many of us will use natural gas or propane stoves to cook our meals this weekend.  We will eat whatever we make on plastic plates with plastic silverware under a plastic tent. Plastic is a petroleum-based product.

Some of us will enjoy a peaceful bike ride along an old trail or throw on a life-jacket and take the boat out to fish at our favorite best kept secrets, the small pond or lake we keep to ourselves, for one last time until next summer.

Maybe your family will pick their backyard football teams and have a final friendly game before the kids start school again to play on the school team. With the sunny weather and a light breeze, you may play a round of golf or a tennis match before  the nets come down.  Throw on your sunglasses, take dozens of pictures to save some last minute summertime memories and enjoy your days!  Don’t forget bug spray for your bonfire by the tents you may camp in over the weekend.

Or maybe you’ll be feeling under the weather and decide to stay in and watch television or work on your computer.

Whatever you choose to do I’m sure it will involve at least three or four petroleum based products.

Americans consume petroleum products at a rate of three-and-a-half gallons of oil and more than 250 cubic feet of natural gas per day each! But, as shown here petroleum is not just used for fuel.
