Report: Shale Development Improved U.S. Oil Production Responsiveness by Nine-Fold
The American Petroleum Institute (API) on Tuesday announced a new initiative aimed to further bolster already successful voluntary efforts to reduce emissions of methane and associated volatile organic compounds from oil and natural gas systems. Environmental groups were quick to criticize the initiative, claiming it’s nothing more than an attempt by the industry to skirt regulations. But the latest Environmental Protection Agency data show that voluntary efforts have proven effective in significantly reducing methane emissions even as oil and natural gas production has skyrocketed.
