According to an investor presentation released yesterday, Rex Energy is looking to invest $85 million in Ohio next year while developing acreage in both of their Warrior North and Warrior South programs.  Rex Energy holds roughly 20,000 acres in Carroll, Noble, Belmont and Guernsey Counties.

Given the early production results by other companies in these counties, their acreage position will likely be in a prime production area.  Their Warrior North program is located in Carroll County where they hold 16,200 gross acres while the Warrior South, which makes up eastern Guernsey, northern Noble and western Belmont Counties, makes up the remaining 6,300 gross acres.

In the Warrior North program, Rex Energy has already developed one well in Carroll County.  Their first well, Brace 1-H, has a lateral length of 4,170 feet and registered a peak rate of 1,094 barrels of oil equivalent a day with 43% of the production composed of natural gas liquids, 31% natural gas and 26% condensate.

The completion of the well consisted of a 17-stage hydraulic fracture stimulation.  The hydraulic fracture treatment utilized a combination of a conventional 300 foot interval stimulation and a “Super Frac” which uses a 150 foot interval stimulation on the well. The first 10 stages were hydraulically fractured using a conventional method while the last 7 stages were performed using the “Super Frac” technology.

From micro-seismic monitoring of the fracture stimulation, the company observed that the “Super Frac” exhibited strong results and plans to utilize the “Super Frac” completion technology on all future Utica completions.  The Brace 1-H was put into sales in the third quarter of 2012.

In Rex Energy’s Warrior South program, Rex Energy has developed a 3 well pad located in Noble County, just south of Quaker City.  At this time all three wells have been completed and are in the resting phase allowing the hydraulic fracturing treatment to dissipate.

All three wells all have a lateral length between 3,100 feet and 3,450 feet and were completed in 21 to 23 hydraulic fracturing stages.  This means all three  laterals were hydraulically fractured in 150 foot intervals using Rex Energy’s “Super Frac” technology.  Rex Energy reports that these wells will be put into production in June.

Rex Energy’s Warrior South acreage is in a very good portion of the Utica/Point pleasant liquids rich area.  The location of eastern Guernsey, Noble and western Belmont could be a very promising area since it will be in close proximity to Gulfport’s Shugert wells which are both the biggest wells in Ohio but west just enough to gain additional condensate and natural liquids.  Time will tell, but things are looking promising for their Warrior South acreage as well as their Warrior North which is been located in the most developed county in the Utica/Point Pleasant.

For 2013, Rex Energy is planning to develop four more wells in the Warrior South region of their acreage and has the potential of 48 well locations with their current acreage.  As for the Warrior North program, Rex Energy plans to develop seven wells in Carroll County in 2013.  With Rex’s current acreage position, they expect to have over 90 well locations in Carroll County.  With 11 wells to be developed in the Utica/Point Pleasant next year, Rex Energy will be making a significant investment in eastern Ohio.
