R&J Trucking is hoping to attract experienced drivers to help them with their increased workload from supplying pad construction for Utica Shale development.  The company has been providing trucking services since 1960, and throughout their inception in Boardman, the company has grown from one terminal to six in Ohio, two in Alabama and one in western Pennsylvania.

About three months ago, R&J trucking started to notice their services began to significantly increase with more hauling of sand and stone to shale developers.

A lot of the things I have found over the past year is there is a tremendous amount of need for drivers, more so than ever because of the oil and gas exploration that’s been happening in this particular time frame.  I’ve been with the company for five years; I live in western Pennsylvania and drive about 30 minutes to work every day.  And I notice more and more things happening here in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.- Greg Beshero, Vorad Program Manager, R&J Trucking

Not only does Greg notice the increase in traffic coming into work, but also the significant workload increase for their company.  R&J Trucking is uniquely qualified to offer services to many of those developing in the region because of their long history of bulk commodities hauling and commitment to safety.

On their website, R&J Trucking states their mission is to follow this quality policy without impairing the safety of their customer’s employees, their employees, and the general public while not negatively impacting the environment or the expectations of society.  This mission statement helps R&J secure work with shale developers since safety and environment is the industry’s primary concern.

Currently, they are looking for drivers to haul sand and stone for pad development throughout the development region of the Utica Shale.  With safety being a top priority, they are looking for driver’s with a minimum of 2 years experience in hauling who also have a Haz-Mat certification.  The candidates must also have a clean driving record and pass a 10 year background check.

In addition to hiring quality drivers, R&J Trucking employs Vorad Technology in their haulers to make sure their drivers practice what the company preaches.  Vorad – or “vehicle onboard radar” – is a technology that ensures drivers maintain safe distances from other drivers, alert drivers in case of obstacles in the road, and helps provide drivers with real-time road monitoring.  Vorad also records R&J’s drivers routes which allows Greg Beshero to monitor his drivers to ensure all of them are following the rules of the road and putting safety first.

Currently they have 20 drivers on their board specifically designated for pad development.  As development continues, Greg Beshero, Vorad Program Manager hopes to have over 40 more as soon as he can.

Right now traffic is really picking up, it has gotten to a point right now where we have a dispatch board just for the oil and gas exploration for our drivers.  We have a dispatcher with about 20 drivers on board with us right now for the oil and gas.  These drivers have to be certified to at the gas wells to do the gas construction.  So being that this is a very specialized area we need to get another 40-50 drivers right away to bring us up to speed and I don’t this is going to be the limit either.  We will probably bring on another 40-50 drivers on top of that. -Greg Beshero, Vorad Program Manager, R&J Trucking

These positions will be located currently in both their Boardman and Canton terminals due to the proximity to the hot spots of Utica development.  But they also see a possibility of Marietta needing drivers to meet their needs.
