*UPDATE I* Shale, Energy Jobs “Stand Out From the Crowd” in Tuscarawas Job Fair

UPDATE I (4/16/12, 9:00 pm ET)  – Congressman Bob Gibbs hosted a record setting job fair in New Philadelphia. Energy in Depth Ohio reports:

Employment opportunities were abound in New Philadelphia as Congressman Bob Gibbs hosted a job fair in conjunction with The Employment SourceGoodwill Industries and WJER Radio. Over 1,200 hundred jobs seekers were in attendance, a new record for the 8 year old event. And there was good cause for those seeking employment opportunities to attend, with nearly 60 employers attending.

Of course, with over 200,000 new Utica Shale related jobs to fill by 2015, companies involved in the development of Ohio’s natural energy resources held a large presence. Oil and gas companies, and the manufacturing industries supporting them, were dominent players at the event and they came ready to hireChesapeake Energy, Timken Steel, MarkWest Energy and Purple Land Management were among the larger employers present, a fact not lost on those seeking job opportunities, nor those hosting the fair.”It definitely means a lot our area to have those folks be a part of it,” says Adam Karam, a jobs development specialist from Dover.

It helps everybody out -even if you are not part of the oil and gas industry. It helps restaurants do better, stores do better, we see a big surge. – Adam Karam

WTOV – Job fair requires employers to hire, seekers optimistic:

With a couple of the oil companies – really big in this area – from a company’s standpoint, from a business standpoint, from an employer’s standpoint, we’re really growing in this area. – Adam Karam

Last week, Energy in Depth – Ohio’s Mike Chadsey travelled to Kent to attend an open house/job fair sponsored by Chesapeake Energy, and he wasn’t alone. With over 1,000 people in attendance, the event brought two things to light: Ohioans need jobs, and the energy industry needs Ohioans.

It’s a winning combination.

(For full coverage of the event in Kent, including an interview from Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, be sure to catch Mike’s post here.)

This Wednesday, Congressman Bob Gibbs will be welcoming over 55 employers to New Philadelphia for the “Stand Out from the Crowd” Job Fair at the Monroe Center.

With increased interest in Ohio coming from producers, manufacturers and industry – all thanks to the incredible resources right here underneath our feet – the Congressman recently had to expand reserved space to accommodate the prospective employers coming to Tuscarawas County.

Of course, where there are Ohio energy jobs we can expect a large presence from some of our usual suspects (Chesapeake Energy Corporation, for example) and those companies either new to the area or newly expanded.

Republic Steel, one of the steel manufacturers seeing resurgence thanks to Ohio’s shale development, and MarkWest Energy, who recently opened operations here in the Buckeye state, join the growing list of attendees.

Of the increased interest and recent announcement of expanded reserved space, Congressman Gibbs released the following statement:

Thanks to the overwhelming interest and positive response to next week’s jobs fair, I am pleased to announce that that we have expanded the space to accommodate more than 55 employers who are actively hiring. While Washington is consumed with people who repeat sound bites about creating jobs, when it comes down to it, they should be rolling up their sleeves and actually helping people get back to work.  That is why this event is so important: it is a real opportunity for companies with job openings to be in the same room with Ohioans who are looking for work. – Congressman Bob Gibbs, 4/5/12

Be sure to follow Energy in Depth – Ohio later this week for an inside view of the New Philadelphia job fair.
