Oil and Gas Development on Federal Lands Provides Key Revenues
The development of oil and gas resources on federal lands across the United States is a vital source of revenue for the federal government and the states themselves, providing funding to support education, infrastructure, and other essential government services. In 2022, production on federal and Native American lands and waters generated $18.5 billion in revenues. According to the Bureau of Land Management, the amount of revenue generated from federal mineral development “is second only to that provided by the Internal Revenue Service.”
