The Gulf of Mexico is one of the country’s most prolific oil and gas basins. In 2019, the Gulf produced 690.6 million barrels of oil and 1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Revenue generated from this production is one of the most important revenue sources for the U.S. government to purchase, maintain, rehabilitate, conserve and preserve our federal lands.
