Around 20 percent of Utah’s oil production occurs on federal lands, but this development has an outsized impact for rural parts of the state. The production of oil and gas on federal lands is a key source of revenue in these areas, including the Uintah Basin. In 2019, development of the oil and gas resources on these lands generated $31.7 million in revenues for the state. Utah received an additional $69.8 million in federal disbursements that year.
